  • 2 1/2 Cups cooked chickpeas, drained and rinsed, if canned
  • 2 Tablespoons tahini

  • 3 Tablespoons basil pesto, to taste
  • 1/2 lemon, squeezed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Homemade Pesto Hummus

Do you ever find a restaurant that you just LOVE, and you can’t help but want to make all the things you order there at home?

When we did the Whole30, we searched EVERYWHERE for a restaurant that was Whole30 compliant so we eat out without being limited to salads. We found Zoe’s Kitchen in the process and instantly fell in love!

I’ve already re-made a Greek quinoa salad that’s similar to their quinoa salad, and now I’m adding pesto hummus to the list too!

I have to confess, though, that this pesto hummus recipe really originated because we had a jar of pesto in the fridge with just a couple of tablespoons left. As I moved some things around in the fridge getting ready for dinner, I found some leftover homemade hummus in a container.

ONLY THEN Did I remember that Zoe’s Kitchen makes pesto hummus… so I thought, why not use up what’s left of the pesto and hummus by making pesto hummus?!

Here’s how you know that you have a winning recipe: when your in-laws are outside with the kids and your husband EATS THE WHOLE THING!

I’m not complaining, but I really did have to pull out the plain hummus from the fridge because he didn’t leave a single bite left for anyone else… My only taste was a swipe of a pita chip when he wasn’t looking!

Where to Buy Pesto Hummus…

Here’s the thing – you can find pesto hummus all over the place…

  • I’ve seen it at Costco.
  • I’ve seen it at Zoe’s Kitchen (obviously).
  • I’ve seen it at Walmart and Kroger (Sabra brand)

But you don’t have to buy it, because it’s SUPER SUPER SUPER easy to make!

What is Pesto Hummus Made Of?

In short, pesto hummus is made of pesto and hummus.

If you buy these two separately, you can simply mix them up together and BAM – you have pesto hummus.

Is Pesto Hummus Healthy?

One of our goals is to eat healthy food as often as possible, and one way we can do that is by making both the hummus and pesto from scratch.

This is our favorite hummus recipe. It has just a bit of a spicy kick, which actually pairs REALLY well with the pesto!

If you make your own beans in the Instant Pot and freeze them in 2-cup portions, you can whip this up in less than 5 minutes. (You’ll need either a food processor or a Blendtec with a Twister Jar.)

I’ve made both basil pesto and carrot top pesto in the past and both are quick and easy to make, especially since you likely already have lemon juice and olive oil at home. All you need is some fresh basil (LOVE basil!), and you can even substitute almonds or cashews for pine nuts, and use a white bean instead of garbanzo beans.

I haven’t tried it myself, but I heard you can make kale pesto too!

Whether you end up with basil pesto hummus, carrot top pesto hummus, or kale pesto hummus, you’re going to end up with something delicious for dinner!
